Why Mobile Pastured?
Excellent question! We have a reason for that and we hope that when you understand our reason you will be asking that question wherever you go! You see, not every egg is the same, you already know that. But not every pastured egg is the same either.
Yes you read correctly. Unfortunately, many Pastured Egg Farms are able to raise chickens and use the popular terms like "Pasture Raised" and "Pastured eggs" also making lovely claims about how many square feet of pasture each hen has, but it actually doesn't change much of anything. Well, that is a big statement, you say. Your right, it is, but we can explain.
You see, very few farms have houses for their birds that move on pasture, which means that the chicken goes back to the same place for her entire lifetime. This is not something that they are proud of and so in most cases do not show their chicken houses to customers.
You've probably seen the commercials and videos made by many big name pastured egg producers that show the hens foraging but not a glimpse of the ground close to the chicken house or inside. The method that is used most commonly does not lead to fresh pasture and high quality eggs. This method leads to eggs that require coloring and artificial aids to get that nice orange pastured egg yolk. The hens in that environment do not use the square footage that these large companies proclaim because the hens do not like to walk that far. It's simple to understand, but an easy play on words that works with many people (but hopefully not on you anymore). We have much more to show you, but it will be best explained in videos that we will be making which will include drone flyovers of our farm, and perhaps some of the "other" pastured farms we referred to. Stay tuned for such videos on our website. They will be on our homepage or in a videos tab when they arrive.
How we care for our chickens for the best yield of quality, mobile pastured eggs:
The hens that produce these pastured eggs have unlimited access to grass. (Thru the growing season)
The chickens live 85% of the daylight hours on the pasture, the rest of their time is spent in the pen laying eggs, drinking water, and eating feed.
Our layers are fed a layer mash and have access to grass, insects, worms, and seed—ensuring a quality egg with top nutritional value and optimal color to the yokes.
We feed Non-Soy, Non-GMO verified feed to our layers.
No hormones or genetically modified materials are fed to our chickens.
